Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, was suspended from the House on Thursday for 'unruly' behaviour. Parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi introduced the suspension motion. During a discussion on the no-confidence motion, Chowdhury compared PM Narendra Modi to Mahabharata's blind king Dhritarashtra and fugitive businessman Nirav Modi.
The remarks faced strong opposition from the BJP. Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged for restraint. Speaker Om Birla expunged certain remarks from the record. Chowdhury responded to PM Modi's 'Quit India' call, advocating for quitting communalisation, polarisation, and saffronisation. He also addressed the Manipur issue, stressing on the need for the PM's intervention due to its global impact.
