The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has highlighted significant irregularities in the execution of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Madhya Pradesh. A nationwide audit revealed that over ₹1.1 crore had been disbursed to approximately 403 individuals who were marked as "dead" in the system, according to media reports. Around 8,000 patients were recorded as hospitalised in multiple hospitals simultaneously within the state during the same period. The audit pointed out 24 state hospitals, including a government hospital, with inflated occupancy numbers. Additionally, 25 hospitals submitted claims twice for 81 patients' surgical treatments, receiving full payment for both claims instead of the prescribed 50%. The flagship scheme offers a ₹5 lakh health cover per family annually and has achieved 5 crore hospital admissions, amounting to ₹61,501 crore for free treatments.
