Union home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday called for an end to the ongoing violence in Manipur, labelling it a "blot on society”. He appealed to the clashing Meitei and Kuki ethnic groups in the state to engage in discussions with the government.
Speaking during the no-trust motion debate in the Lok Sabha, Shah criticised politicisation of the violence, deeming it “more shameful” than the act itself.
Shah defended Manipur's Chief Minister N Biren Singh, highlighting his cooperation with the Centre, and noted a declining death toll since the outbreak of clashes on May 3.
Shah also denounced the opposition for preferring "ruckus, not discussion" and criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's visit to Manipur.
