The Bhupesh Baghel government in Chhattisgarh has commenced the process of implementing 58% reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in educational admissions. The decision comes three months after the Supreme Court granted temporary leeway to the government to enact this law. The state cabinet decided to apply the 58% reservation in educational institutions as per the court's interim order. The Chhattisgarh High Court's previous declaration that the 2011 reservation law amendment was "unconstitutional" was stayed by the Supreme Court in May.
