17 injured in clashes as Army and RAF fire teargas shells in Manipur’s Bishnupur district

Clashes erupted in the Kangvai and Phougakchao areas of Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Thursday, resulting in 17 people being injured as the Army and RAF personnel fired teargas shells. In response to the escalating tension, the district magistrates of Imphal East and Imphal West withdrew earlier announced curfew relaxations, and imposed restrictions during the day in addition to the existing night curfew throughout the Imphal valley. Prior to the clashes, a planned mass burial of Kuki-Zomi people killed in ethnic violence was halted by the state's high court, ordering the maintenance of status quo at the proposed burial site in Churachandpur district.
