Manipur Police file case against Assam Rifles over ‘obstructing arrests’

Shortly after the withdrawal of the Assam Rifles, a central paramilitary force, from a tumultuous district in Manipur, a police case was reportedly registered against the force's personnel. It is alleged that Assam Rifles personnel obstructed the state police from arresting men who were allegedly behind the killing of three people last Saturday in Bishnupur district. The administrative control of the Assam Rifles is with the Union Home Ministry, while operational control rests with the Army. The FIR, NDTV reported, was filed on August 5 after purported clashes between Manipur Police and Assam Rifles personnel surfaced on social media.
